Vitalik is one of the most fascinating minds of our generation to watch. His multifarious talents are so prolific as to be spell binding to the most intelligent analysts and observers. He has been listed in Fortune 40 under 40. Born in 1994, he may well be the beacon of a new era of computing. While his invention Ethereum is truly ground-breaking, the world can expect more convention-shattering inventions from this dynamite ! We are proud to present the Russian Missile Vitalik to India!
Buterin was born in Moscow, Russia where he lived until the age of six under the protective guard of his grandparents while his Computer Science graduate parents pursued academics. The Buterin family then migrated to Canada. While in third grade of elementary school in Canada, Buterin was placed into a class for gifted children and started to understand that he was drawn to math, programming, and economics. In 2012, he obtained a Bronze Medal in the International Olympiad in Informatics where he coded an optimisation problem giving agents a function to independently maximise their own objectives whilst the other competitors took an entirely different approach. This philosophy akin to the “selfish-gene” principle that espouses free market economics would guide his future beliefs. His markedly different thinking sets him apart as an original thinker, theorist, mathematician, divine expressionist and hypnotic coder all rolled into one! Legend has it that his keyboard manoeuvring skills had once hypnotised serpents dancing on his head 😛
He attended the University of Waterloo but dropped out to work on bitcoin full-time. “When Vitalik talks about the blockchain, Stanford professors take out their notebooks and start writing”, Herman Gref, Head of Sberbank, told the forum in Davos. Vitalik is an ethereal combination that academic institutions seldom produce – more intellectually astute than an academician, more open-minded and experimental than a college freshman, more computationally efficient than the Chinese Cambrian Chip, more unfathomable than the AI that the likes of Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates collectively fear, and cooler than 007 !
Buterin currently resides above earth, mainly flying around the world. In 2014 Buterin received the Peter Thiel Fellowship with a $100000 grant to work on his Ethereum idea initially presented at Bitcoin Miami conference, for which he received a standing ovation. Ethereum went on to create a record in crowdfunding by collecting 31000 bitcoin or nearly $18mn in its debut fundraising round.
Bitcoin Magazine (2011-2014)
Beginnings at Bitcoin Magazine
In September 2011, Buterin would accept to be the first co-founder and contribute as a leading writer to a new publication called Bitcoin Magazine.
Buterin had written about bitcoin-related topics for other publications, including Bitcoin Weekly. Bitcoin Magazine in 2012 later began publishing a print edition and has been referred to as the first serious publication dedicated to cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin Magazine was then purchased by BTC Media, where Buterin continued to write until mid-2014.
He also held a position on the editorial board of Ledger, a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that publishes full-length original research articles on the subjects of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
He is a co-creator and inventor of Ethereum, described as a “decentralized mining network and software development platform rolled into one” that facilitates the creation of new cryptocurrencies and programs that share a single block chain (a cryptographic transaction ledger). The Ethereum project won him the World Technology Award in 2014 — bypassing Mark Zuckerberg and other contenders. “When Vitalik talks about the blockchain, Stanford professors take out their notebooks and start writing”, as Herman Gref, head of Sberbank, told the forum in Davos.
Buterin has contributed as a developer to other open source software projects. Some early examples are: Kryptokit, pybitcointools, multisig.info, and btckeysplit. He also contributed to DarkWallet by Cody Wilson, Bitcoin Python libraries, and the cryptocurrency marketplace site Egora.
